I have loved visiting Colorado since my first trip there in 1975. Thanks to numerous visits while growing up, our oldest daughter Karen moved to Colorado Springs in 2000 after graduation from college and now I have more reasons to visit this great state full of so much natural beauty.

Hernan, thank you for your message. My leg is almost back to normal except for pain during weather changes but that will go away eventually or so I'm told. : ) Don't go breaking any legs when you're over 60 because the recuperation time was unbelievably long in my opinion. Don

Loved your photos! As an ex-Miamian and ex-Coloradan I have thoroughly enjoyed your website. Grew up and Miami and fell in love with Colorado (Colo. Springs area) in high school, lived there for several years - These pictures could've been from some of my photo albums! Now a Tampa resident, but my heart yearns for Colorado ... So nice to see so much of the Florida/Colorado connection here.

Thank you, guest. I'm now in an orthopedic boot after three weeks in a cast and two weeks in a splint and still not supposed to put weight on the leg. Another week and a half and I can stop wearing the boot. I'll definitely be back but in the warmer months but one never knows about CO weather because it can vary so much. I learned a lesson about black ice, that's for sure, so I'll be more careful on future visits if the temps are low enough to have ice in places. Don

Don - Sorry to hear about your fall - I hope this message finds you doing better. December has brought snow and has been very very cold. It hit -10 this weekend, but the zillions of stars and beautiful views make it all worth while. Get better fast and give Colorado another visit.

Lynne and Guest, welcome to the site and thank you for your comments. I love Colorado and Colorado Springs but I'm a little down on Colorado right now - we flew out to the Springs a week ago Friday and the first day I was there I slipped on black ice on the hotel's sidewalk and broke a bone in my left leg. It was 25 degrees with a stiff wind and light snow, the same day there was a 50-car pileup on I-25 in the Springs. I've been in considerable pain since and the operation to put in a plate and screws is Tuesday back here in South Florida. Don

From 2 Native ex-Miamians- Born in Miami -1948 and 1956 and raised in Miami my husband and I move just outside of Cripple Creek in 2001. We have an older fixer home in the woods with a great view of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. 18 miles from Florissant. We love it. I graduated from Miami High and my husband was the first senior class from Palmetto. Viewing the old photos of Miami and reading the comments has been a great way to spend a BEAUTIFUL fall football afternoon. Go Dolphins!

You are so right - living in Colorado is a dream come true. I left WPBch in 1981 and moved to the Springs. I owned a successful construction company for many years and retired in 1999. A little over a year ago went back to college. There are so many benefits here - great schools, beautiful scenery, wonderful people, awesome weather (just enough cold and snow to have a real winter), gambling, outdoor events, terrific churches, and family activities for every kind of family. I think about moving so I can be near two of my kids (three live here) and I just can't go. If anyone is thinking about moving away from Florida or anywhere, come to Colorado Springs...I promise you will love it. It's not expensive to live here either. Pay is as good as most places. We would love to have some more ex-Miamians !!!

Thank you for your comments Carol. My daughter and her family live in Colorado Springs and we love visiting out there two to four times a year. I suspect that there are a lot of ex-Miamians and ex-Floridians living out there. I'm glad you're enjoying living out there too and wish you a lot of healthy years in such a beautiful locale. Don

You're right about the beautiful State of Colorado. My husband and I left Ft. Lauderdale in March this year (2007) and bought a beautiful new home in the mountains just outside Colorado Springs in the town of Florissant. We truly feel like we've come home to "America the Beautiful." Everyday we wake up and have to pinch ourselves because we can't believe how blessed we are to live in such a wonderful place. There are so many things to do and see here even throughout the winter months. Both my husband and I grew up in South Florida. I spent my early years in Hialeah (both my folks worked for the airlines) and have many fond memories of what life was like when South Florida was truly a paradise. I attended Hialeah High School and graduated in 1969. We feel like we've found a special kind of paradise living up here in these mountains and hope to stay here the rest of our lives.
