Historical Walking Tours - Belle Meade / Biscayne Boulevard and Shorecrest / Poet Laureate

Belle Meade / Biscayne Boulevard Walking Tour

Covers 160 years of recorded history of North East Miami starting with the 1857 Military Trail that became Biscayne Boulevard in the 1920's and served as the spine for the development of the area. Focuses on the boom time Belle Meade and Aqua Marine subdivisions and the architecture of the Mediterranean Revival, Art Deco and MiMo periods.

Tours begin at 10:30AM from the Vagabond Motel, 7301 Biscayne Boulevard. It lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes and covers about a mile on foot.

A $10.00 donation for the Biscayne MiMo Association is requested. No credit cards

Shorecrest / Poet Laureate Walking Tour

This tour focuses on the pioneer era of North East Miami, starting with a walk along a stretch of the Military Trail and views of Dr. Potter's 1874 canal, 1920's mail order bungalows, and private homes from the pre-Boom, Mediterranean Revival, Art Deco and MiMo periods. This tour ends under the 60 year old Poinciana that Mrs. Vivian Laramore Rader, Florida's Poet Laureate (1931-1975) planted across the street from her home on Dixie Highway.

These tours begin at 10:30AM from Shorecrest Mini Park located at the intersection of N.E. 84th Street, N. E. 8th Court and East Dixie Highway.

As this is the first year the tour is offered, voluntary donations are accepted but not requested. This tour lasts approximately 1 and a half hours and covers 1 and a quarter miles.
