Jerry Kettleman was born on November 5, 1947 and I first met him at Palm Springs Junior High in 8th grade in 1960. We were friends for 51 years until his death in 2011 in Tallapoosa, Georgia. Jerry grew up at 6560 W. 14th Avenue in Hialeah, Florida. After graduation from Hialeah High School in 1965 he joined the U. S. Marine Corps and served as a Corporal in Viet Nam as part of his four years on active duty.
Jerry was a regular at almost weekly poker games that we had at my house and Bob Zimmerman's house with guys that we grew up with and we always had a riot with him when our intoxication levels started getting up there. His wife Liz would occasionally drop in on us unannounced to make sure Jerry was actually playing poker, that he was behaving himself and that we weren't corrupting him even further than he was. : )
Jerry married Elizabeth Jones, also from Palm Springs Junior High and Hialeah High, on October 3, 1975. They raised her son John in Hialeah and in Tallapoosa, Georgia after moving there in the mid-1980's. Jerry and Liz owned and operated the local NAPA Auto Parts store in town. Liz passed away on February 10, 2005 See the separate memoriam gallery to Liz at https://pbase.com/donboyd/mem_liz_kettleman .
Jerry passed away on December 2nd, 2011, in Tallapoosa. RIP and Godspeed old friend! A lot of people will always remember you, you ol' rascal! Jerry's obituary can be viewed by clicking on his name image below. Semper Fi, Jerry!
