Delmar was less than a year younger than me and we first met in the mid to late 80's at the Aviation Department. Delmar was a big man and in the mid-80's he was the Project Manager for the new Skyport facility (two pad elevated helicopter landing area) in front of the terminal. Ron Gunther, then Chief of Airside Ops, decided to reward Del with a flight in a Bell Jet Ranger when conducting test landings and takeoffs from Skyport when it was completed. Ron jokingly related that they discovered that the maximum takeoff weight for a Jet Ranger was one Delmar plus two pilots.
Over the years we were together at many lunches and birthday parties in his section's offices and at nearby restaurants, and he was always the main character there. Delmar passed away on October 7, 2004.
Godspeed Delmar, thank you for your friendship for many years and for making so many people laugh.
