I did not know Bud Marquis personally so he is an exception in this gallery of memoriams for family, friends and neighbors. But I did get to meet and photograph him on December 29, 2007, when he led a huge procession of airboats out to the 35th anniversary memorial service for those who died in the crash of Eastern Airlines Flight 401 in the Everglades.
Bud Marquis was the right guy in the right place at the right time when the Eastern L1011 plowed into the Everglades in the middle of the night and he surely deserves a memoriam here for what he did that night to save numerous lives and assist the Coast Guard and other agencies when they arrived on the scene. Godspeed and farewell Bud Marquis!

I knew Bud when we both worked for the Game Commission on South Dixie next to Shorty's BBQ. He was always such a nice man, and very kind to me. He could spin a great yarn, and was happy to share the wonderful produce that the farmers in Homestead would give him when he made his rounds.
Rest in Peace Bud.
