What was the Leprechaun Bar like? Anyone know the owner, David Andersen? Think he had several bars and restaurants in the area over the years.

Wow. Came here looking for where the old Leprechaun bar was located, since I used to go there regularly and now that I'm back in town, I had wondered where it had been. This was the only place on the web that even had a reference to it.

SID ORIGINALLY PLAYED THE PIANO AT THE YORKSHIRE INN ON BIRD RD--THEN MOVED TO THE BAR CALLED THE LEMON TWIST ON BIRD RD--A NW CORNER WHICH WAS RENAMED SIDS--AND HAD THE PIANO TUNE ON THE WINDOW--"DRIND AND A SANDWICH--FOUR BITS"---J MUDD

Thats still there. The leprechaun bar was called O'rourkes before it closed down in 2005. OK Pool service is still there. That's the palmetto back there.

guest...

While it has another name on the building, Sid's Piano Bar is mentioned here:

I think it was Sid's after being the Red Bird bar and before Papa Johns that's there now.

I know the Leprechaun bar was also a piano-type bar. I know it was a mostly gay bar before it closed. How far back did that go?

At some point I sort of hope a few smaller bars will give up on the over-done sports themes and go back to a really good piano format. Of course a big part of that is having the right person at the keys. I can think of a lot of good times I had at such a bar. Sure, some of the songs were corny but, come on, how many of you DON'T know the words to Billy Joel's Piano Man? If you go to a good one, you will leave the bar smiling and humming some song.

Send me one and I'll be glad to add it to the galleries. I can't add what I don't have, sorry.

I hope somewhere in here you will include a picture of Sid's Piano Bar, that was truly a Miami Landmark.

I remember the Leprechaun bar...up until a few years ago I used to have a drink or two at O'Rourke's...building is still there.

Ray, and Don,

I'm sure you remember when The Palmetto expressway was called The Palmetto By-Pass, since it at one time actually bypassed the city of Miami...prior to all of the expansion...ain't no bypass in 2008!

I think OK Pools had a fire and totally rebuilt on the same site and is still open there. That's quite a history for a business. After the Leprechaun closed, it was briefly a sports bar and has been abandoned for many years. The building is still standing. I think we can see the Palmetto overpass in the background. Notice no street lights, no side walks and how narrow Bird Road is in this picture. Using the front of the bar as a sort of reference, the street is now about 20 from the building. The round (Pure?) sign would now be in the street. Bird Road is now 6 lanes, with a median and full sidewalks.
