1975 - the old MacArthur Causeway bridge, Watson Island, Government Cut and Port of Miami at Dodge Island

Biscayne Bay, Miami, Florida view map

I took this photo back from a sightseeing helicopter based at Watson Island in the good old days of the Goodyear Blimp and various helicopter operations from Watson Island though at the time the Goodyear Blimp was only a visitor for our winter seasons. Watson Island also had a nice area for small fishing boats to dock on the west side and you could buy really fresh fish from the fishermen there. All those fishing boats and shacks have been removed for a huge new hotel and luxury yacht marina to be built on the west side of Watson Island. The MacArthur Causeway (US 41 and A1A) bridge has since been replaced with a newer higher and wider bridge, Dodge Island (PortMiami) has been expanded eastward to encompass the other island, and the South Beach skyline has been altered dramatically with the construction of giant tall condos.

The good old days indeed, I used to hitchhike to and from South Beach to Downtown Miami ,,, stopping at the Japanese gardens to have a breath of "fresh air"... and watch the cruisers docking into the port.. Good Old Days Indeed!!!!..
