I just found this forum while googeling Stonehaven. I recently ran across the original brochure of Hallmark's new concept of suburbia living of Stonehaven. My Parents , brother and I moved there - I suspect we were origial owners. We lived on 73rd..... I remember my Mom saying that they were going to build a Catholic Church in our "back Yard".. I have lovely memories and some pictures.. but BEST of all we have an exact replica of the home made by my brother- including the screened in pool - in a Very small scale. It is a treasure. BUT, since he has passed, our family would like someone to love this model as we did. Any ideas? We would love to track down current owners, but dont know how. I tried to google earth the home, but hard to recognise.

Denese, I would be glad to upload the photo on this site, but in the "Individuals & Small Groups" gallery. Please provide all the information you can such as date and names of your mom and dad and the name you want me to thank for contributing the photo. Please send to OldMiamiMemories@gmail.com and I'll try to get it up within a day or two. Thanks.

I have a pic of my Mom and Dad from the Herald in front of the front door of the house in Stonehaven they bought in 1962 - apparently it was a big deal when that development opened up. We lived in that house until i graduated from Palmetto in 1973. I should upload the photo.

Chapman Field Drive or S.W. 124th St. runs east and west. Today the street sign is on the opposite corner. Palmetto Elementary is directly south, with Palmetto Middle School right behind it. And yep, St. Louis Catholic is north on 120th with Palmetto High west of it.

My brother used to work for the Golden Eagle ranch....it was off 122 ave and (theoretical) flagler st....I think the acre patch is still there..but not the barn......some of the older houses built in the 50's/60's still stand..but I find the area very disturbing now.

Sadly, nearly all of the trees were destroyed during Hurricane Andrew. As I made my way from Hollywood to help with rescue and recovery, I found all the trees south of Bird Rd were all snapped off at about 4' above the ground. I had to pull over and cry. Most of those pines were either slash or yellow pine, and longleaf pines. Neither species bears up under extreme wind or ice for that matter. They are very brittle. Interestingly, they are both fire tolerant, and longleaf is actually fire dependent. Wonderful site, great memories. about 15 years ago I went down to find the old Golden Eagles Stables near 122nd St and the Trail and got very lost! Sweetwater ain't what it used to be! The barn and it's acre were still there though! I miss the old Miami, but not the new one! An Appalachian resident since 1999/.

I took a few pictures of this wall on 12/14/07. The wall is all still there but only the "v" is left from "Stonehaven". This view is looking North West.

is Chapman Field looking west or east? To the north is a catholic church..right? There are hardly any developments left that utilize dade pines in there entirety....snippets of them may still be visible (for example...older homes that haven't been razed to the ground in killian/pinecrest) but nothing to hold a candle to this picture. Interestingly enough, Plantation Acres homes in Broward have melaleuca adorned lawns on each 1/2-3/4 acre lot..though they are harmful to the surrounding enviroment (upsets the ecological balance) and burn initiatives have been imposed to rid the surrounding land (like on krome) of them. The area is quite beautiful, accessible off of broward blvd and sw 118 ave (drop down one drag east from flamingo rd/sw 124 ave in davie) Had it not been for these invasive, tenacious weeds..we would have seen more agricultural communities sprout up in the pioneer years between sunset dr and south broward...am I right? Are they easy to get rid of by burn/poison initiatives alone?

My favorite street name..Farm Life Rd...I joke with my friend who just bought a house on Kendall and 162 ave how she lives on Farm Life School....they should just change the street numbers to names in Kendall one day.
