After seeing what has happened to Hialeah Park it is no wonder why the state of thorobred racing has hit rock bottom. Champions never quit they fight till the end.Hialeah is holding on for dear life, hopefully I will be able to see live racing return in my lifetime. This is absolutely heart breaking.

I had my Sweet 15's pictures taken here in May 1976, and had my wedding reception here on February 11th, 1989. I moved to NY in 2004, but I go back home at least once every year, and I do visit the Race Track when I am there. That beautiful lawn (in this picture) has been cemented over, but some of the Royal Palms still stand, albeit no as grand as in their heyday. When I was last there this past July, I heard some disturbing news that the City of Hialeah (where I grew up and lived for over 35 years) was considering tearing the Race Track down and using all those beautiful acres for new condos, homes, schools and shopping centers. This saddened me to a great extent, since I grew up with this beautiful and exquisite landmark, which sits right smack in the middle of the city. I hope those were just ugly rummors because it would be a shame to lose such a beautiful place. I know that in (at least) the last 20 years or so Hialeah Race Track has not been even the shadow of what it once was, but I strongly believe that it should be on the National Registry of Historic Sites and preserved for many more generations to come.

The fountain is still there but the Royal Palms are gone and the lawn is now cemented in. Those changes were made long ago.
