In Memoriam - Andrew Psalidas

PSALIDAS, Andrew, longtime Assistant County Attorney, died on Monday, April 28, 2003 at age 86. He was born on the eastern shore of Maryland in the town of Crisfield on September 5, 1916. His family moved to Martinsburg, West Virginia where he attended high school and met his sweetheart, Aldia Cage. They attended the University of West Virginia together where Mr. Psalidas received a degree in engineering. After graduation, he married Aldia who was known to all their friends as "Cookie."

Before World War II, Mr. Psalidas joined the U. S. Navy and became a naval aviation navigator. He served in the Pacific as a Lt. Commander until the end of the hostilities. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific medal with 4 stars, the Philippine Liberation medal with 1 star and the Naval Aviation Air Medal. He retired from the Naval Aviation Reserves with the rank of Captain.

After the war, he attended the University of Miami Law School where he received an L.L.B. in 1950. He was a member of the Florida Bar and a life member of the Dade County Bar Association. After a few years in private practice he joined the Miami-Dade Aviation Department as Assistant County Attorney where he served for 41 years.

Surviving their beloved "Uncle Andy" are: James Johnston of Live Oak, Florida; Lynne Ramsey of Jasper, Georgia; Robert Johnston of Eljay, Georgia; Aldia L. Baker of Canton, Georgia; Michael W. Cage of Coconut Creek, Florida; nieces and nephews of Aldia Cage.

A memorial service will be held at Van Orsdel Family Funeral Chapel at 11220 North Kendall Drive, Miami, on Saturday, May 17, 2003 at 2 p.m. The family would appreciate donations to the United Way of Miami-Dade, Mr. Psalidas' favorite charity, or the charity of your choice.
