Terry lived down the street from the Sullivans and Bob Zimmerman on West 11th Avenue and next door to Harry Duncan Wilson, another buddy of ours. 11th Avenue probably had more peel out tire tracks than any other in Hialeah.
Terry Bocskey's Fairlane GT-390 was incredibly fast and he raced it a lot out at the "midnights" on Krome Avenue too. I remember he would pack four or five us in the back seat to give him more weight on the rear end so he wouldn't peel out so much and lose time in a drag race. The strangest drag race I remember while in Terry's car was late one night on Washington Avenue on South Beach when we were sitting at a red light and two older guys pulled up in a Shelby Mustang GT-350 that they had rented from Hertz at the airport. We talked to them for a couple of minutes about the rental conditions and prices and then when the light changed again both cars peeled out for a full city block leaving the street full of tire smoke. As I recall we were even with them before both drivers let off the gas and hit the brakes to avoid running a red light several blocks down.
While I was in Coast Guard boot camp June through August 1966, the Florida Highway Patrol had a big raid on the illegal drag races, swooping in from the north and from the south and nabbing over 100 race participants and fans who were all arrested. Someone sent the front page of the Miami Herald's local section to me while in boot camp and there was a large photo of a lot of people in a courtroom and there were a lot of recognizable faces in the crowd awaiting their hearings.
