1988 - Ronnie, former WQAM disc jockey Jim "Catfish" Dunlap and beautiful Lynne Russell, former CNN Headline News anchorwoman

Biscayne Baby, Coconut Grove, FL

Ronnie from Ronnie's Records in Homestead, Jim Dunlap (passed away in 1999 in the Atlanta area) and his beautiful stunning wife Lynne Russell, then nightly anchorwoman on CNN Headline News which I watched every night.

Jim Dunlap was a very popular disc jockey, Music Director and Program Director at WQAM "Tiger Radio", 560AM, in Miami in the 60's. WQAM had close to a 60% market share of radio listeners at their peak, several years before FM radio became more available. That type of market share is unheard of these days. Jim passed away in the Atlanta area on September 28, 1999, after a prolonged illness.

This photo was taken at a public reunion of WQAM disc jockeys at Biscayne Baby in Coconut Grove, hosted by radio legend Rick Shaw of WAXY-FM (now with WMJX Magic 102.7) and former disc jockey at WCKR, 610AM, and then WQAM for many years starting in the early 60's.

I worked some of the live music shows at Biscayne Baby in 1985 and 86. I worked as a line cook at Sakura Japanese Restaurant in Coral Gables until 9:30pm. I would rush home to my house in the Grove, shower and be at The Baby by 10:15pm. The shows usually started at 11:00pm. I worked the light booth for the stage. It was old time acts like Chubby Checker, The Pointer Sisters, Ben E. King, etc.
My friend, Todd Dowd (father was Tom Dowd the famous record producer) would work the sound board.
One night after the show was done, Todd, his stepmother, Cheryl and I were in the champagne room hanging out. In walks Dickey Betts of The Allman Brothers (Tom Dowd produced some of their albums) along with Don Johnson (Miami Vice). Todd and Cheryl said hello to Dickey as he introduced all of us to his buddy, Don Johnson. I was not a big fan of Johnson as I thought he was too full of himself. When Johnson asked if we wanted to have a drink with him, everybody looked at me first. I politely declined, we looked at Cheryl next, she also declined. We then looked at Todd and he also declined. Don said,
"Well f... all of you, come on Dickey, let's go!" Dickey didn't drink alcohol at that time, he was drinking a Coca Cola. It was funny seeing Don get so worked up over something so trivial...

Jim Dunlap moved up to Atlanta and became a Paramedic. He passed away in the mid to late 1990's. He was a real gentleman with a strong love of people.
