On the shoreline just about where that parking lot sits were the remains of a building burned during the filming of "They Were Expendable" during WW II, The ruins were still there in the mid 1970s. Much of the movie was filmed on and around Key Biscayne, and Mashta including No Name Cove and the Pines Canal.
