I believe that some of the other men in the photo are the judge, lawyers and grave diggers. Notice the wagon on the left. Carol

In the photo the man with the star on his hat is John Wesley Bishop. He was in police and detective work in Dade County from 1918-1925. As you can see he is holding a rope around the neck of a black man. The building behind them at that time was used for hangings.

Um. I don't see anything in this photo that indicates it shows a hanging.

I don't see anything that would indicate the photo was taken in Dade County, Florida. The first legal hanging in Dade took place on the North bank of the Miami River. All subsequent hangings occurred in an enclosure in the jail in downtown Miami.
