1943 - NAS Miami personnel posing at the Naval Air Station Miami
Naval Air Station Miami, Dade County
Thank you to Larry Zink for contributing this great old image that his father obtained while working construction at the Naval Air Station. Please click on "original" below to view the image at the largest size.
The airplanes are Curtiss SBC-4s. The SBC-4 was the last biplane dive-bomber in USN service seeing use in the South West Pacific (but no combat). The SBC also saw service with the RAF as the Curtiss Cleveland and with the French. My father flew in one out of Master's Field ruing 1942.
Gene, I'm sorry for the delay in responding but I just saw your comments for the first time. You can write the National Personnel Records Center for information on your father but there is no way to tell if he is in the above photo or not because there are no names to go along with the photo. The website for the National Personnel Records Center is located at:http://www.archives.gov/st-louis/military-personnel/ Good luck in your searching!
Don .
