My Father worked at this Walgreens for over 30 years, as a Fountain Manager.
When I was a kid you to watch the Orange Bowl Parade from the 3rd floor.
Still to this day, I still miss that parade.

If you look to the right of Walgreens to the next bldg, there was a hotel on the second story & the porch of the hotel looked over N. Miami Ave. The Rice Hotel..My Aunt Edy Lefcoe owned the hotel & my Mom Josie, managed it...We moved there in 1946 & lived on & off for 10 years....My name is Marian Sperber, Citrus Grove '57-'59 MSH '60-'62...My sisters Marcia (Sperber) Arrendale & My baby sister Paula (Sperber) Carter, Pro Bowler, Yes, Don Carter (the legendery bowler) We love Miami.......

You would be hard pressed to find anyone who DID NOT have a treasured visit to this store. It was so much fun! I'm loving these picture memories of the heart.

In the 50's, I remember eating at the Walgreen's lunch counter many times on a trip downtown. If I wanted a little more upscale lunch, I'd walk down to the Mayfair Restaurant.

I remember first going here as a kid. I was very impressed. The higher floors had an oval balcony that overlooked the first floor. All very Art Deco in design. Last time I was downtown I think this building was an shoe store that had just closed. Hopefully someone will restore it to it's original look.
