My father Louis G. Ronco was the Catering Manager at the Americana from the early 50's to the mid 60's. We would spend Saturday's by the pool eating club sandwiches, treated like royalty, like "real" guests. Largely due to the loyal staff that worked with my father. Sometimes my father would bring home strawberry cheesecakes, confections made by a world class pastry chef who eventually went to work at The White House after JF Kennedy stayed at the hotel. The hotel was an elegant place for elegant people.
