Pan American Bank eventually bought the Peoples group of banks; then they in turn were purchased by NCNB, and then were acquired by Barnett. Barnett was later absorbed into Bank of America.

After each acquistion, a little more of the personalized service of banking was eroded as these bigger chains became nothing more than profit generators for stockholders.

Banking branches are now known as "stores", bank services are now known as "products"... the customer service (HA!) area is now known as a "platform".

If and when you DO find a service being offered, there's usually a plethora of fine print or your nickel-and-dimed to death with service charges.

Brink back The Bank of Miami, Pan American Bank, Little River Bank and Trust, First Federal, American Savings, Coral Gable Federal, Central Bank, Chase Federal, Mercantile National Bank of Miami Beach, Miami Beach Federal, Peoples Bank and the dozens of other institutioins that used to treat customer as valued assets, not as commodities...
