I was stationed at Lake Worth Inlet with the USCG at the time and I used to drive up to Jupiter Island a couple of times a month during the week because it was so beautiful and no one else was around. You could drive on paths through the pine trees and come up on a ridge overlooking the beach and what is now Blowing Rocks Preserve. There was an asphalt coastal patrol road from World War II days at the top of the ridge in many places that was probably used to look for German submarines offshore but it was washed out in many places.
