Obituary for Lorraine Phillips McSherry (1925 - 2017)


McSHERRY, LORRAINE PHILLIPS, passed away at home hospice of natural causes on Thursday, January 5, 2017, a few weeks shy of her 92nd birthday.

Lorraine was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 31, 1925 to William and Catherine Phillips. Her mother Catherine also died on this same day 60 years ago. She is predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Joseph McSherry and her only sister, Catherine Bergin (Aloysius); and survived by her son, Joseph McSherry (Marian); her daughter with whom she lived, Lorraine Sweeney and son Billy; son Patrick McSherry (Beverly); and daughter Lynne McSherry Perez (Arthur Barosela) along with grand-children Shannon Rooney (Joseph); Joseph McSherry (Viivi); Sean McSherry; Leonardo Perez (Christina); Kieran McSherry; Colin McSherry (Tracy); William Sweeney; Ricardo Perez (Vivian); Catherine Perez Flores (Francisco); Elizabeth Perez Gonzalez (Edward); 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Lorraine moved to Miami from Levittown, Pa. in 1975 and worked for Dade County Probate Court, then retired from Dade County Aviation's accounting department where she worked for many years.

A memorial mass will be said at Mother of Christ Catholic Church, 142 Avenue & Coral Way, Miami, on Saturday, January 28 at 2:00 p.m. Lorraine will be interred in Philadelphia, PA. Special thanks go to her caregivers Lorraine Jaime, Nina Fernandez and Vitas Hospice.

She is on the FAA pilot registry but chose to hide her address from the public. All I know is that she is captain on a couple of types of business jets but I don't know the company that she works for. Perhaps someday Diane will see this site and respond.

Obituary

DAVIS, Philip A., Col. USMC (Ret). Born in Chicago 8/7/22, died on Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Phil is survived by his loving wife Evelyn and dear children and their families. Daughters: Kathleen, her daughter Georgia and grandson Gideon; Rosemary, her daughter Maureen and son James; Carla, her husband Darin and sons Evan and Colin. Sons: John, Thomas, Edward; Philip, his wife Cynthia and son Philip K.; Joseph, his wife Deirdre and son Michael; Arturo, his wife Jessica, daughter Isabella and son Adrian; and Paul, his wife Annie and son Luis.

Phil attended Georgetown University School of Foreign Service (BS) and The Catholic University of America (MA). He was in the U. S. Marine Corps for 30 years with service in WW II, Korea, Vietnam and various posts and stations. Subsequently, he was employed by the State of Florida, the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, and the Aviation Department, Miami-Dade County.

After retiring he volunteered in the Guardian Ad Litem Program and with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27 at Stanfill Funeral Home, 10545 S. Dixie Highway. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at the Church of the Epiphany, 8235 Red Road, Miami, FL. at 9:30 am on Thursday, March 28. Burial will be at the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, FL. In place of flowers, please send a donation to The Jesuits, 4511 W. Pine Blvd, St. Louis, MO.

Hi Don, and everyone at DCAD,

Great job Don, as always, you took great pictures. I will never forget my days at the airport. They continue to bring back fond memories of the people and the adventures; all great.

Hi Don: Great pictures. I got this from an aviation friend. Brings back lots of memories and you have done a great job at documenting our past. It takes a lot of people to run that airport but without the work of aircraft refuelers nothing could move.Do you have any photos of the old fuel companies and people from late sixties and beyond.I worked for Tursair from 1969-1987. Great company and wonderful co-workers

Thanks for posting these photos of MIA. From 1973 thru 1989, I was a line mechanic for Eastern Airlines. The photo entitled “Late 1980's - Maria Gonzalez, Linda Viau and Susy Gonzalez” showing Concourse C and the Whisperliner in the background brought back a lot of fond memories. Thanks again.

It's so awesome to see these pictures. I started at the airport in 1984 and met many of the people on here while working with many different airlines. That picture with Charlie Jones in it brought back many memories of my days at what is now American Eagle. Back then in was PBA Airlines and I worked for Pompano Airways that also used this facility. I caught Charlie taking pictures of me one day and meeting an aircraft and I love having those pictures and the memories they bring of my early years at MIA. Thanks for the memories.
