Mount Qomolangma (Mt. Everest) and Base Camp, Tibet

We arrived in Rongbuk Monastery (highest monastery on the earth with altitude at 5100m) in the afternoon. At first Mt. Everest is covered completed by clouds. But when we were having dinner that night, our drivers run in and said the clouds are parting. We all rush out with our camera and that's when we get the first glimpse of the famous mountain.

We got up early at around 5:00am the next morning and took the cart up to the base camp. Unfortunately, no sun rise for us that morning. We waited up in base camp for around two hours with no luck seeing the Mt. Everest.
After we got back down to Rongbuk Monastery and just about to leave, the clouds finally parted. We had a clear view of the whole Mount Qomolangma.

just came back from the basecamp and rongbuk, the images you get from the roof of the world are worth the trip. i will never forget. blue sky and sunny, unbelievable!!!

I think Mt. Everest is really hard to climb. I'm reading a book called Peak and the kid is climbing Mt. Everst and it is apparently VERY difficult!!!

Amazing pics. My wife and I travelled in Tibet last year. These wonderful pictures bring back many memories. I wish I had my SLR and 10-22 lens as the views are just breath taking. Unfortunately, the Chinese development monster continues to roll east and soon Tibet will not be the remote and beautiful place it has always been.

I'm glad I find your gallery still here as it is a record of this part of the world whilst it was still relatively untouched by mankind and industry.- I have recently read that the Chinese government is building a tarmac road from the Rongbuk monastery towards the North Face of Everest in preparation fo the 2008 Beijing Olympics. I am not kidding. It will never be the same there again. Here's a link to the story - it has already begun. I've been to the Nepalese side of Everest, but your gallery has convinced me I need to see it from the Tibetan side too - Rongbuk looks likes a fantastic place to see Everest from. Many thanks for sharing your super photographs.
