I have been seeing this guy for a few weeks. He is often accompanied by a 3-pointer. Once I saw them pretending to fight and locking horns (my first fuzzy pic of deer locking horns - great to witness finally ...!), but it was all in play. The 3-pointer was there again tonight and passed by when I shot this pic (cool! - I will post encounter later ...) but basically they were hungry and just passed by as friends - as always. (And, yes, there are plenty of doe-eyed deer out and about at roughly the same time ...)! (OK, I guess does - Geez! How doI say "does" without saying "does"? - always look doe-eyed ... and I guess they were done with competition if they even had tried this year ...)
I think this guy is the same 10-pointer I shot last year (see other pics), but after a year, this guy is truly massive and more beautiful, more healthy and indeed the most impressive specimen I have ever seen!!! What a stud!!! The thickness of the antlers is something I have never yet seen at Streamwood in over a decade! I finally "shot" my 10-point buck in better light!
(Hey photographers ... this was thru a dirty double-paned window with a non-IS-stabilized 300 mm lens on my Canon). And ... hunters ... eat your heart out!!! I shot him the last couple of years, but now I really got the "killer shot"!!!
And, others, you do not really have to brave the winter, but just be aware of what happens outside ... just beyond your windows. And, yes ... it takes great luck and especially lucky timing -but just keep your eyes out and a camera handy!
Enjoy!
