Swim NYC Flag Day Intrepid Swim

Jon Wilkinson the first man to finish the Flag Day Intrepid Swim on Saturday June 12 and Bonnie Schwartz the first woman to finish the one mile race from Christopher Street to Pier 62 at the Chelsea Piers complex. (Due to security concerns the race course was changed, it had been planned to finish at the Intrepid.) At 24:50.3 minutes Mr. Wilkinson’s time was fastest of the 62 men, Ms. Schwartz's time of 28:28.2 was the third fastest overall and the fastest of the 95 women who swam the race.

Congratulations to all 157 of the swimmers!

The Flag Day Intrepid Swim was the first of seven races that the Manhattan Island Foundation will hold this summer. Their next race is the 28.5 mile Manhattan Island Marathon Swim on Saturday, July 3, 2004. Races range from one-half mile Cove-to-Cove on to the 28.5 mile Marathon.

You can learn more about these swims and register for upcoming events at their web site: http://www.swimnyc.org
