Temporary Darkness

Mitchell, OR

This is obviously not a very good picture and, as most of you hopefully know, I don’t make a practice of posting lousy snapshots or even snapshots at all, but I wanted to post this one of what it was like at the moment of totality of the eclipse. The image is noisy and blurred. I was trying to stay focused (no pun intended) on my main camera and capturing the actual eclipse, but was quickly trying to take a few shots of the environment with my point and shoot. The one bright area on the left upper middle is actually the totality showing in my monitor which was on live view. The red blob to the right is Sam, the dark blue one next to that is David and other spectators are mulling about. I just wanted to give everyone a feel of how dark it got momentarily.

I'm glad you shared. You know me, I like snapshots and spontaneous captures. This really gives me a feel for the moment.

And folks can just call me "The Red Blob" from now on... ;-)

Very cool capture of the moment. It gives others an idea of how "dark" totality actually was. A super awesome experience for sure.

Very cool, thanks for sharing the excitement of the moment! V

I'm glad that you did. We had a 93% eclipse and it was disappointingly light out so it's nice to see this.

a fair representation of that two minutes of relative darkness...the blur adds a certain dynamism to the moment..

This is a really awesome way to capture the experience.
A rare moment that is well remembered here
