In 1989, my mother and grandmother bought me season tickets with them to the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans. Having attended several musicals and plays earlier, I felt awfully grown up to have season tickets as a Senior in high school. I loved going to the plays with my grandmother and mother. Perhaps my fondest memories of that time was learning how to navigate the crowds to the parking garage. My grandmother is a 5 foot tall, if that but she has some powerful fast legs on her. We weaved in and out of exiting patrons quickly hightailing it to the garage where we were seldom further back than fifth in line. Apparently, the wait was excruciating if you were not among the first since that was the only decently lit parking garage near the theatre.
I have saved all of my playbills since seeing Peter Pan in the early 80s. When I pulled out this old one from Fiddler on the Roof, I was surprised to discover that I actually saw Topol perform as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof. Perhaps that is why I have such fond memories of that musical, although to tell the truth, I've never been a great fan of the song "Sunrise, Sunset".
