Dave Etchell's Japan Report - Dave is one of the numerous reporters to have been fortunate enough to attend the Nikon launch in Japan. In my opinion, his report is the best out there, detailed and full of insights about the D3 and the D300. In particular, note his comments about the superb noise performance of the D3 vs the Canon EOS 1D Mark III as seen in side-by-side prints.

When did production of the Nikon D3 start? - According to a report from Rob Galbraith. production of the D3 (and also D300) had already started as of August 2007 for targeted first sales in November 2007, though not at full volume yet. Nikon D2 cameras are made at Nikon's factory in Sendai, Japan.
