It may be humble, but...
This little house was witness to big hopes and dreams. Someone was
probably born in this house; perhaps they moved far away when they
grew up. The kitchen was, no doubt, the scene of laughter and tears,
home cooked meals, and simple pleasures. The house now stands empty
and possibly abandoned, amidst some of the last remaining open farmland
in Brentwood, California.

I need a trick to give myself a new treat: an 85 f/1.8 USM lens!

I told you we should have upgraded the honeymoon package!

It's okay, Mom. Really. It's going to be okay.

Compare and Contrast
I flew this afternoon from Sacramento to San Diego, the scene of terrible
wildfires recently. The shot on the left is taking off from Sacramento,
and the shot on the right is approaching our landing in San Diego. Not quite
the same height, but you can see for yourself the difference in air quality.
The area of San Diego in this photograph was NOT part of the burn area, but you can
literally see the air that hovers over even the most unscathed neighborhoods.

Our County Administration Building
With all our fire in San Diego, I thought this was fitting.
The only "fire" is the lights on the CAB across the water.
That's all the fire we need.
I couldn't find my tripod until later, so this shot was taken
with a monopod. With a tripod the focus would have been sharper.
Even with a monopod and image stableazation (sp?), 1/5 of a second is a long time!

The smoke gets pretty thick
Downtown, there is little or no fire danger. There is, however,
very poor air quality. There was a bit of photoshopping in this image.
If I hadn't artificially lightened the lower portion, you wouldn't be
able to see downtown. Maybe a filter on the lens would have helped but
I don't have that.

The view east from the top of Mt. Helix
Mt. Helix is one of the highest points in San Diego. This is a view of our
fire looking east. The neighborhood below the flames is where my
daughter lives (primarily) with her mom and step father. They were evacuated earlier today.

Bombs Away!
Perhaps this POV was a little shortsighted on my part.
