I Call Them Click and Clack

Meet the two newest editions to the family.
These are beach cruisers – big, heavy, with no gears,
coaster brakes (pedal backwards to stop), and fat
white wall tires. Picked up these two from Craigslist
for a fraction of their cost new.

These will allow me to ride with my 14 year old daughter
when she’s at my place. We won’t have to schlep her other
bike back and forth, and to be honest, these are just plain all kinds of fun.
You ride one of these babies, and you’re 13 all over again.

Suddenly I want a basket, a horn, a mirror, and some fringe
coming out of the handlebars, and baseball cards on the spokes!

So, now I have five bikes – a mountain bike, a hybrid,
an old road bike converted to a singlespeed, and now,
the two coasters. Don’t ask where I keep them; I haven’t figured that out.

Cool, Gary. You can give me your car now. We always called the handle bar stuff "streamers". Not that I'd ever use that stuff. No. Not me. Never.

Superb SP--and wonderful story. It's wonderful to be 13 again. You know what they say: Youth is wasted on the young. :)

Wow, my bike is very jealous so I can't buy a second one. I have a very difficult relationship...

We rented two bikes like these in Key Largo.
They were great, and we did have a basket and a horn.

Amusing picture - I have a wonderful Trek Hybrid but it didn't come supplied with self-motivation, so I don't get out very often!!
Guest 08-Apr-2006 13:54
Now all you need is a bike like Don Nieman's
I'm impressed

Opening up a bike shop eh? I love your passion for them, and this SP does a fine job of conveying your interest/passion.

You look like someone planning to have a lot of fun.
laine8208-Apr-2006 04:19
You make me want a bike painted black, with a cane basket attached with leather straps on a straight handlebar & a stretch elastic skirt guard on the back wheel like my mother rode during the war years...:>)
Guest 08-Apr-2006 03:10
wow, you really are a bike convert!!
Donnaray08-Apr-2006 03:02

Sheila08-Apr-2006 01:54
Great fun! I like the baseball card idea. Think you should do it.
Bob B.08-Apr-2006 01:33
Please, no! Not 13 again! Aaaahhhhhhhhhh...! (Hope you enjoy them!)
Cindi Smith08-Apr-2006 01:23
You look set to ride! But, you can't ride them both at the same time! Looks like a lot of fun! Great SP by the way!

CJ, my longest so far is 62 miles, which is called a "metric century." 100 mile rides are called Centuries, and some people ride Double Centuries. We call those people nuts. :-)
CJ Burianek08-Apr-2006 01:16
you sound like my dad - he seems to be collecting bikes lately too.. you don't do crazy things like over 100mile rides too do you???
