Golden Arches

Back for more night shots, but this time, all by myself. Sigh.

Question: Should I crop out more of the dark arch in the foreground?

Does the frame work, or does it suck?

other sizes: small medium original auto

I like the dark arch .... adds to the over all framing ... it draws us into the space.
Beautiful hallway ... is this the foyer in your place ...??? ; )

Great!!!

Gary this is spectacular... beautiful exposure. I enjoy the play of light and shadows on the arches. Nicely framed too.

The dark arch makes a wonderful frame so I would leave it just as is. The background frame that you added surprising does not bother me as I would think it would. It almost feels as though this photo is hanging on one of its own walls if you know what I mean. But, your photo doesn't need the frame as it is strong on its own.

I have to agree with some of the other posters. The dark arch makes the picture and is a frame in itself. The outer frame is way too light for the pic.

Great perspective and with beautiful vivid colour!! I like these night shots.

Wow.. beautiful shot indeed!

Lovely photo and the frame works for me , but then I am Charasmatic , Reformed , Quaker going to a Baptist Church ... :) I really like the Photo !

Very nice shot, BTW.

I think that the arch is integral to the shot. The frame is undesireable, IMHO.

Beautiful, Gary. I'd prefer a darker frame, something really simple, also.

Lose the frame. Or make it simple black, classical. Rotate it first CCW, just a smidge then crop to the very very cool door thing (can't think right now what it's called-where the doors join at the floor). Aren't you sorry you asked?
Jeez the more I look at this the more stunning it is. Such excellent light. Gotta vote.

Superb shot & the frame is just fine as is.
Pepe Zyman03-May-2005 21:51
Wow Gary! This is excellent! (just a little tilted to the right)

I keep meaning to start a thread about whether to frame or not. However, I have never been to a museum that had Renoir hanging by a thumb tac! LOL

Anyway, lovely photo. The lighting is fabulous!

I love the dark arch but I think the light frame does detract. Very, very nice. vote.

I love the dark arch in the foreground! I think it brings out the light in the rest of the picture!

I love the dark arch, but drop the frame, the arch frames it perfectly.

I like the dark frame as it gives greater perspective and form. Beautiful scene.

Wonderful perspective with lovely warm color!

This is a superb shot.

I very much like the dark arch in the foreground, Gary. It frames nicely and creates the contrast to appreciate the golden light further down the walk. Excellent work.
Guest 03-May-2005 13:02
Beautiful! For my two cents worth, the arch works, but the frame doesn't. For me, the rough frame detracts from the view through the arch. Love the golden glow, though! :)

great shot!!!

great shot!!!

the frame works. it adds another dimension. great job.
Saskia 03-May-2005 09:27
I think the dark arch is a wonderful natural frame, so I would probably not add another. Wonderful photo!
Guest 03-May-2005 09:19
Frame works very well imo.. I think it looks great!
Guest 03-May-2005 07:50
Bloody marvellous.
Guest 03-May-2005 06:56
In my opinion the arch it`s ok, adds great framing to the rest of the photo and give it a nice perspective.
About the frame I`m not sure, but I guess I agree with Dennis
Dennis Steinauer03-May-2005 05:50
I think I'd lose the frame -- at least that frame. The drop shadow on the left seems to conflict with the matted effect on the right. Also, both the matte and the silver frame seem to clash with rather than bring out the golds in the photo. (But then, I wear stripes with plaids.)
Dennis Steinauer03-May-2005 05:47
No, the dark arch lends scale and frames what might otherwise have been just a shot down a long hallway -- albeit quite an impressive hallway.
Guest 03-May-2005 05:42
The dark arch brings out the light from the rest of the image.
Guest 03-May-2005 05:37
I like the dark arch, frames the rest of the photo very nicely
Guest 03-May-2005 05:31
Very good atmosphere!
