Summer Heat Bird Treat

1 C water
1 C oats
3/4 C bacon grease or lard
1 C cornmeal
1/2 C raisins
1 cup peanut butter
2 handfuls of wild bird seed

Boil water in medium pan on medium heat and add oats
Reduce heat to low and simmer 1 min
Remove pot from heat and immediately add bacon grease, Cream of Wheat, cornmeal, raisins, peanut butter and bird seed
Stir together well
Let mixture cool and place in suet feeder, freeze unused portion*

* I used an ice cream scoop and dropped them in to an empty egg carton. I used a foam carton and sprayed it lightly with cooking spray so they release easily when cool.

I'm sure both the birds AND the squirrels are going to love these treat. Thanks for the addition to the gallery. Ice cream scoops are very handy for cookie making. A neighbor got me using them (smaller size, of course) a few years ago.
