We decided to drive our older car to PA and leave it there to use when we visit.
The secondary idea, was to visit as many places along the way that were in the National Park System. The plan was to go east on I-10 to Alabama; north to Chattanooga and the Great Smoky Mountains; to Tennessee and Virginia; stop in Lexington Virginia to see our friends the Densons; east to Chancellorvile and look for information on my gg grandfather who died in the Civil War in the battle of the Wilderness; then north through northern Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland with the final NPS site being Gettysburg, PA.
While planning, we thought it would be fun to see what kind of food might be available along our planned route. Now it is not hard for you, the reader, to realize that our love of seafood just happened to agree with the I-10 route along the northen side of the Gulf of Mexico. Bring on the "Crawdads", shrimp, crabs, fresh fish, gumbo, etouffee and hush puppies! We also cannot forget that the middle of Texas (San Antonio area), is also in the center of the barbeque belt. Smoked brisket, ribs and sausages, Here we come.
The trip narrative will be divided into sub-galleries by state visited.
Now, on to the trip.
