We were going to meet my son and grandson in Flagstaff on Groundhogs Day and decided to go to the Grand Canyon before the meeting. We were hoping to see the Canyon with some snow in/on it. However, the Canyon had no snow. It was covered from rim to rim with a dense fog. The weather person said the condition was very unusual, an inversion, which occurs only once in a decade. On the second day,at sunset, the fog lifted partially and produced some of the most awesome lighting conditions for about 20 minutes just before dark. As you will notice, the combination of sunset, partial clouds below and above the rim, and late afternoon shadows were "different".
