The Darien is the Southeastern-most part of Panama where the isthmus joins South America at Columbia. It is a rugged and remote area. It is known as the Darien Gap because the Pan-American Highway does not run through the area so it is the only gap between Alaska and Tierra del Fuego. Because of its remoteness the only way to get to Cana is by charter flight to a grass strip runway. This portion of our trip to Panama with Field Guides.
