I was snapping pictures of this candle, Elaine walked by..."why don't you light the candle?"

Duh!

Much better, but still hard to get a shot of a flame that is not overexposed. The secret is ambient light other than the flame. It would be good to have a camera with manual settings, too.

I'll save my money. After the driveway repairs, the house trim painted, the carpeting in the livingroom and up the stairs. And all the little emergencies in between.

After I posted this I noticed the composition is not centered, the horizon slopes, and the detail I saw while in Elements certainly didn't make it to PBase.

Who's idea was it to do this PaD thing, anyway?!

LOL Don, and you have such a looooong ways to go. I agree about getting the flame so it isn't blown out, it is even tough in manual mode, believe me. :-)

The 'wonkiness' is easily fixed! I do like the framing of the candle and the complimentary colour of the background, makes for a very pleasing image.

I like this Don, it is very creative. I love the colours and the way you have presented it. Excellent.

Very nice shot, Don. I love the warmth to it. And I also did
not even notice the slant until you mentioned it. I really like it!
Gail Davison06-Apr-2005 21:42
This is very beautiful. I didn't even notice it wasn't straight until you pointed it out. It IS a good shot.

I always look forward to getting back and checking your PAD shot Don.
The commentaries are always superb and your shots innovative.
Keep up the good work.

LOL! We all get frustrated once in a while!
Nice shot!

Nice work. I know the frustration of working with less than perfect equipment. :-)

We can level the horizon in our brains and just sit back and admire this. The candle is dazzlingly bright and the background tones so soft and subtle, as if it were monumental in size against the evening sky. Very. very nice.

Very hard to get this type of subject spot on first time round. I think you've done a great job here, the image holds together well, nice one.

Love it, even with it's tiny flaws. Thumbs up, Elaine ;>)

Whoooaa! Cool your heels there buddy! This is a great shot :)
We tend to be our own worst critic, but I like the effect you got here.
