Good Friends
When you live apart from old friends, it becomes easy to forget how good a friend you are to each other. Mona and Pierrette never seem to have trouble talking to each other, and always get along. A picture like this just seems to glow with how comfortable they are with each other. One of my favourites!

On the other hand, this is an old married couple!

The Fort
You may remember, if you've actually read my blog comments, that Port Louis is a walled port. Here's a view of the wall running to the fortress end.

The Dinner
Alan and Pierrette had arranged for Alan to pick up Pierrette's mother, Madame Ferland, while we were shopping at the market. Then we would all have lunch together.
Madame Ferland is a feisty 89-year old, with a spirit far in excess of her tiny size. She was a member of the Resistance during the 2nd World War, and apparently has many stories to tell about her escapades during that time.
We were privileged to meet her.

Autumn Sun Worshippers
After lunch, we took a leisurely walk along the wall to the Port Louis beach. The morning fog had completely burned away by this point, and it was getting quite hot. The beach was basically deserted, except for this dedicated couple of sunbathers. They were obviously settled in for the long haul....

Sailboats under way
Even though the fog was gone from the harbour, you could still see a lot of fog and mist out on the Atlantic. It certainly wasn't stopping these sailboats.

Everyone likes the sun...
Even this little bug was enjoying sitting in the sun on the wall! Yeah, I know...it's out of focus. I still like the shot.

A fitting end to another good day.
After doing the shopping at the community market; having lunch with Madame Ferland; sitting on the beach; walking along the walls of Port Louis; and travelling back across the harbour to Gavres, we were ready for a nice meal. Everything was fresh and local - artichokes, beans, lagoustines, wine...everything. If we look satisfied in this picture, it's not hard to understand why!

France, Day 9 - Mont St. Michel et St. Malo
We had already decided to go on a road trip across Brittany and up to the border of Bittany and Normandy to see Mont St. Michel.
As the crow flies, it would be 100 mile drive. As the road turns, it is a bit more.
We broke the trip up by stopping in Josselin, a small town along the way. Josselin has a very impressive church, and an imposing castle along the river. It also has some interesting names for its streets. I can't imagine why the women are sitting under that sign...grin...

Another gargoyle
I really need to get a better understanding of gargoyles. This one makes me think of that saying about "when pigs fly"...
