Gaza boy and settler schoolchildren - Gaza

Gaza

This Palestinian boy has just found a photograph of Jewish settler school children with their teachers. The children look close to the same age as the boy. They would never have had the chance to meet each other. The 8,000 settlers were heavily protected behind electric fences and other security measures that walled them off from 1.4 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

its a beautiful picture damon. i appreciate your endeavor to be impartial, and your appraisal of peace and respect. and i mean this generally, i've seen your other works as well. its hard for a lot of people to be unbiased, so having mutual respect for mankind invokes criticism. dont let it dampen your spirit.

Zvi, you've made some bold claims. Now it's time to front up with some real evidence. As for population claims, here is my source:

https://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/gz.html

Where is your source?

As for photographic skills, perhaps you'd be so kind as show some of your own before you so boldy crticise mine? Since you believe my photos have no photographic value, then I doubt you'd like the work of the Israeli photographers I've worked with. Of course the fact that they are professional news photograhers may mean little to you, since they clearly don't share your ideology or worldview.

As for your understanding of Palestinians, well, what can one say? Do you actually know any? Have you encountered Palestinians and heard their stories, their pains and their hopes and dreams? Do you know them as real people in all their complexity, or in your mind are they merely "terrorists"?

And tell me, have you ever met someone who takes the time to get to know Israelis and Palestinians with equal respect? Who feels affection and sympathy for both peoples?

Damon,

Lets get some things right - the Israeli central bureau of statistics states that there are a total of 1,387,000 arabs in Israel. Some of them live in Gaza and others in Judea and Samarea, believe me I would like them all in Gaza, as you say.

About the Palestinians desire to live in peace with us, one can learn from the way they behave (Qasams against civil targets, although there are many military bases in their range) and from the way they choose their leaders (Hamas).

But in order to understand these facts you have to be objective (not like me) and this brings me to the reason why I do not like you and your deeds - pbase.com is a photographers' site, which you use for political reasons, with medium quality photos, which have no photographic value. You can see this by the comments you get.

So, stranger, go back to Gaza and continue taking your photos.

Ok Zvi. First you get basic facts about your neighbors flat out wrong, and then you try to insult me. And like Doron you have no idea who I am or what I do. That's not exactly a winning approach, and not one respectful of your religious and cultural heritage.
Zvi 16-Jul-2006 22:41
Well, it's time to go back to Gaza and take your photos - you have plenty more to learn about Gaza and taking photos.

Zvi, please provide a reference that provides evidence for your assertion about the population of Gaza. According to the CIA, the most recent population estimate is 1,428,757.

Corruption is a crime and it should be eradicated everywhere in the region, including Israel and Palestine.

Most Palestinians have consistently expressed a desire to live in peace beside Israelis, so perhaps it is time to reevaluate your fear about being thrown into the sea.

Doron, drop the self-righteous attitude my friend: you have no idea about my background, who I've worked for, who and what I know. Yes Israelis are genuine victims in this conflict but so too are Palestinians. Both peoples are losers in this conflict. I've yet to meet anyone who does not want to be treated with dignity and respect. I respect Jews, Christians and Muslims equally. I hope you do too.
doron 09-Jul-2006 16:04
And now that the settlers are gone, why don't you DAMON go and take photos of the Qasam rockets, that are intended to bring the Israelis in the same situation of the poor palestinians ?
Another funny thing is that the boy shows his aspirations (in the photo) only to a foreign photographer (well, assuming you are an inocent one) - can you guess what would happen to him if he showed the photo to his parents, relatives, Hamas activists, etc ?
I do not blame you, foreigner, you do not understand the reality that goes on there, you are only a victim of your innocence, in your politically-correct attitude.
I am sure where you come from everything is fine, no problems to solve there.
zvi 09-Jul-2006 09:56
First, there are only 700,000 palestinians in the Gaza strip, not 1.4 million.
Your boy does not have to look for photos, he can go and see how the israelis live and take care of themselves. If he and his people would take care of themselves, and not only try to throw the israelis to the sea, they could live a normal life as well. Nobody should expect the israelis to take care of the palestinians wellfare. The problem is that the palestinian leaders do not take care of their people as well, all they care about is how to steel their money faster.
