Mono Lake March 2007

An afternoon & evening on March 24th and dawn on the 25th.

The interesting thing about the tufa formations is that were originally formed underwater. Then the City of Los Angeles diverted water from most of the springs that feed the lake. Insatiably thirsty LA was on track to pretty much bleed the lake dry until the Mono Lake Committee and the National Audubon Society with the help of the Sierra Club intervened and won a law suit to stablize the water flow into the lake to maintain the water level where it is now +/-. So ironically, because of that ecological disaster in the making, we now enjoy the bizarre tufa formations and the wildlife continues to use the lake.
