From a number of quick trips north from Santa Cruz to enjoy the evening light on a beautiful section of California Coast
Old Truck
This is an old Chevy dump truck
that actually became a sign for the organic strawberries that they sell.
The truck and the buildings were painted with the same paint
thus creating a most interesting color harmony.
I picked up a 1/2 flat of strawberries
and 8 ears of fresh white corn for tomorrow's bar-b-que.
Infrared Beach
Stopped at this nameless beach as the cliffs became illuminated in a warm glow. I couldn't resist the temptation to play up the shadows against the greenery on the hill with the light, so shot this 1 second exposure with my HOYA R72.
Last Light at Pigeon Point Light Station
Just as the sun dipped into the fog bank, the Pampas Grass plumes were softly illuminated in the forground.
Cliffs
The cliffs in evening light. There was a stiff breeze and the pelicans were gliding into the wind without flapping their wings much but were still moving fast. How do they do that?
The strawberry, cabbage and artichoke fields run down right to the edges of the cliffs and are punctuated by old redwood sheds and small barns.
Last Light at Pigeon Point Light Station-2
Done for the Day
The surfers were done but the Gulls and Pelicans were working overtime.
Bluff Trail through the Cypress
It's a shear drop of 120' straight down
Street & Stop Light at Last Light
Very last light. The street light and flashing stop light seemed a contradiction with the beauty of the sunset over the beach.
Fog Bank
Driving north, an immense fog bank stood like a wall off in the distance and swallowed the sun 20 minutes earlier than usual, so this was the last shot of the day.
Abandoned Pier
Across from the village of Davenport, with my toes dangling over the edge of the cliff. It's a long ways down...
Colorized Infrared Beach
This is processed to reveal the "false" colors extrapolated from the red channel.
Cypress Tracery
I liked the tracery of the cypress against the serenity of the horizon far out over the Pacific
Cypress Bluff
Taken along the bluff... I liked this one as a duotone to bring out the moodiness of the place. Every so often a line of Pelicans would silently shoot past on the evening breeze just out of reach over the sheer bluff. It seemed very calm here but there was a strange tension being so close to such a high edge, but it looked safe enough with the well worn path and the tangled trees.
Flying into the Storm
It was raining and the Pelicans were hovering in place in the storm...
Your photos around Santa Cruz caught my attention. I was there but for a short time though I hope to get back for a long stay. Great capture of the feel of the sun setting over the Pacific.
