open diffused skylight

This is Austen, seen in profile. I was checking out the precise highlight placement using a manual focus lens, and f/5.6 minus 3/4 of a a stop is where the histogram indicated a pretty darned good exposure. I am impressed by how well this lens resolves fine detail. This was shot at 300mm from near minimum focus distance on the 100-300 f/5.6 Zoom-Nikkor. There is not a lot of inherent depth of field at 450mm effective focal length, but this shot worked out pretty well focus wise. Seen at original size, this quickie 1200 pixel tall web reduction shows a lot of fine detail in the individual hairs of the cat. Overall, pretty good performance for a 100-300mm zoom lens hand-held. By "quickie" web reduction,I mean a fast, fairly aggressive USM and shrink,no spotting of sensor dust or stuck on pixels, and not even adjusting the curves....this is just a quick fine-detail resolution test, and no effort has been made to keep the noise in the greens from rising to the top,and no extradordinary effort has been made to work the file over and over to get the optimum out of it....just a lens test shot....
