Viroconium Cornoviorum was once the 4th largest Roman settlement in the British Isles with up to 15,000 inhabitants at its peak. Started around 70 AD and built up over the next 300+ years it boasts what is probably the largest freestanding Roman wall in the country. Looked after by English Heritage it is well worth a visit. In the local church of St. Andrew at Wroxeter can be found a font made from the base of one of the Roman pillars, further roman pillars support the church gates.
The replica Roman villa was built for a TV program "Rome wasn't built in a day" in 2011.
