Daddy, Your Photos Are Beautiful As Always. Since As Far Back As I Remember You Always Had A Camera Close To Hand And You Always Saw A Great Photo Oppportunity That Others Would Have Completely Missed. You Have A Natural Talent To Finding Beauty And Emotion In Landscapes And... The Only Photos That I Like Of Myself Are The Ones That You Took!!! I Hope You Have Passed On A Little Of Your Talent To Me But Remembering All The Smudgy Films You Used To Developed For Me... I Think I Might Have A Long Way To Go Yet. I Love You And Just Wanted You To Know That I Have Always Loved Your Photography And Always Will Even Though I Probably Don't Say It Enough... Lots Of Love... Selena. xxx

This is a great collection of galleries Derek. Your naratives describing the scenes are very interesting. Sorry to read about your "sunrise" problems at Monument Valley after traveling so far. It doesn't seem fair but you got some good shots anyway. I really appreciate your comments on my work. - Gary

Derek, did you know that I (Lito)have a lot of comments on Rod ostoski-space shuttle sts1 but it was deleted from yesterday July 11, 2006. I believe he couldn't take the critique I layed out for him so he deleted my comments.

Derek - Thank you for your kind comment about one of my Scottish pictures. You have some great Scottish images yourself. Like you, part of me would like to go back and live there!
Hi Derek: I found your galleries because you visited mine. Thanks for the kind comments you left. I am in awe of your work! Really impressive. Shows so much ability along with a very creative mind. I will revist!
great to see the film Derek! enjoyed so many photographs here. when you capture a great photo with film and then go print it optically, it is so special... such a wonderful feeling of accomplishment - a real treasure if you will. For me, and this is only a personal opinion, it is so much better than taking every single image and playing with it until it looks great in PS.. no gratification there. Thanks for the lovely comments and best of luck to you!
Thanks for visiting my site. I'm leaving town tomorrow to photography the California coast for a couple of weeks and look forward to viewing your images after my return. From what I've quickly seen, you've got some fantastic images. I've been shooting with Nikon gear for the past 13 years and have enjoyed shooting with the N90s, F100, D70 and recently purchased P1. All take great pics. I went digital a little over a year ago and have never looked back. I've got my eye on the new D200, which Pop Photo gave rave reviews. I just need to figure out how to convince my wife I need another camera, which will be hard to do. I'll write you soon. Gar

First of all, thanks so much for viewing my galleries and taking the time to comment. A little can mean so much. I am very impressed with your galleries both color and B&W. You have a very creative sense of space and composition. Needless to say I've added your galleries to my fav's list.
And no doubt I will be asking you for advise on equipment in the near future. We can't have enough toys in this business....or should I say 'hobby'.

Many thanks for your kind encouragement in your comments. It's very much appreciated.
I must say that each time i visit your galleries i find I could spend the evening writing and writing....so many beautiful images catch my eye and only so few words i can find in praise enough.
Superb photography..I will be sure to check by as I'm able.
Best wishes Rob
Thank you for the kind words in my ¡§Peek&Woo¡¨ gallery.
It¡¦s amazing you made that question. A few days ago, while shooting some occasional photos on a bridge over the Douro River (Oporto), I instantly ¡§saw¡¨ an image composed under it and quickly grabbed a shot.
As I was pressing the shutter, a title came to mind which I found quite fit for the atmosphere and emotions it evoked.
Walking away from the bridge, I realised that a lot of my photos ¡§find¡¨ their titles at the exact moment I¡¦m making then. This seems to happen through a weird chain of immediately evoked emotions followed by concepts and feelings emerging from them.
It struck me as kind of curious semi-epiphany and I kept thinking about it for some time.
So, imagine my surprise when I opened my PBase and came across your comments and question...Talk about eerie coincidences.
Still, thank you for asking.
May I also say that I love the peaceful and subdued ambiences emanating from your photos? One can see that your involvement with photography is not a recent one. This kind of compositions and colour-structured balanced vision owes as much to innate creativity as to the long time dealing and ¡§absorbing¡¨ the medium. Truly great work...
(That Lake District is starting to get on my ¡§photographic nerves¡¨. It will have to go down, sometime...º )
I find your work interesting and inspiring. And I really appreciate your technical descriptions and commentary. Much to marvel at in your galleries. Thanks for sharing.
Your work is breathtaking! I love the abstracts and your eye for color. The black and whites are simply gorgeous. Thanks for sharing your work with the world!
Great shots Derek!
Looks like your photographic ability matches well with your literary skills!
Thanks for visiting my gallery. I enjoyed the comments on Yes very much. They have had a profound influence on my life and work. "Stand on hills of long forgotten yesterdays," comes to mind for the great deserts of the West that I so enjoy working in.

thanks for your many kind comments on my sedona images.
to answer your questions on shutter speeds & flowing water, yes to all. i use both polarizers and full ND filters to achieve the shutter speeds for various effects.
i will use the polarizer to both slow the speed down and to tone down the hot spots that often come with reflecting, flowing "white" water, especially on a sunny day. it also helps to moderate reflective rocks and folliage.
generally a polarizer will do the trick to get into the .5s-1.5s range but sometimes, depending on sun angle it doesn't do the trick. so then i have 1 stop & a 2 stop full ND filters (as opposed to graduated or split ND filters which i often use for landscape shots with bright skies), which i vary depending on the length of shutter speed i want.
with digital i can look at the results immidiately and i often use a combination of all these things, & using the aperture to fine tune the look. the images from the day you commented on were just that: experiments to see what speeds achieve what looks with different types of water. the "correct" shutter speed changes quite a bit depending on speed, clarity vs. foaminess (the whiteness or luminosity of the water) and the distance to subject.
what's correct varies from shooter to shooter, as they say "your mileage may vary!"
i hope this is helpful.
keep shooting (good ones always!),
I really like your photos. nice variety of images.
Très belle gallerie avec beaucoup de variété
En fantastisk samling, mycket vackert.
