10 Great Dance Movies
"Saturday Night Fever" (1977) The stink of the disco era is such that this movie is sometimes treated as a punch line. But even if you don't particularly identify with the dancing, and get a chuckle out of the way Tony (John Travolta) protects his hair from meddling parents, it's a great movie that combines the coming-of-age flick with the dance genre.

Travolta plays Tony, an underachieving Brooklyn teenager whose brother is studying to be a priest. He's a star on the disco floor, though, and this is where he meets the elegant Stephanie (Karen Lynn Gorney). She agrees to dance in competition with him. Even though she rejects Tony's romantic advances (and this is how the 1977 movie breaks the mold), she does inspire him to a better life. (Everett Collection)
