10 Great Dance Movies
"Footloose" (1984) If you came of age in the 1980s, you know the lyrics to the Kenny Loggins song "Footloose." You might even have tried to dance the Kevin Bacon, though we hope you didn't copy the hairstyle.

In this 1984 hit, Bacon played Ren McCormack, a city slicker who's moved from Chicago to a small Midwestern town where the twin demons of rock music and dancing have been banned by the town's repressive minister, the Reverend Shaw Moore (John Lithgow). The reverend has a comely, blond daughter named Ariel, played by Lori Singer, just off her star turn as a cellist in television's "Fame." Naturally, she's the love interest. Sarah Jessica Parker plays the part of a girl infatuated with Ren's dim-witted best friend. Led by Ren, the kids work together to bring music -- and dance -- back to town. And they did. Not only did this inspire a musical, the soundtrack was huge, and the movie still pops up as a pop culture reference on TV shows such as "30 Rock." (Everett Collection)
