"Dirty Dancing" (1987) No movie since this 1987 hit has come close to knocking "Dirty Dancing" off its pedestal. It stars Patrick Swayze as Johnny Castle, the hunky dance instructor at a resort in the Catskill Mountains. When his dance partner falls ill after a botched abortion, Baby (Jennifer Grey) steps in. She learns to dance in secret with Johnny, knowing her dad and his boss wouldn't approve. She naturally falls in love with him, even though she's a doctor's daughter and he's barely making it in the world. And, of course, he falls for her, too, deflowering her in a rustic cabin.
But what is it Shakespeare said about love? The course "never did run smooth." There's quite the Shakespearean ending in "Dirty Dancing," culminating in an edgy group dance performance and the classic line, "Nobody puts Baby in the corner." (Artisan Entertainment / Courtesy Everett Collection)
