ONCE he was just Baby Bob. Now the late Steve Irwin's son looks like following his sister, Bindi, into television with his own series.
His mother, Terri Irwin, told SiT yesterday that Bob, who turned four on Saturday, already wants to follow in his father's famous footsteps.
"Everything we've ever done with filming is very much a family affair," she said.
"Bob has grown up around the cameras and he's very much into it, boots and all.
"I said to him the other day, 'Do you want to do a show some day?' and without even the slightest hesitation, he said, 'Oh yes, Robert The Jungle Girl'."
While the name may need some work, Irwin says Bob has all the charisma needed to host a show.
"He's just like Steve," she said. "He's very much a little wildlife warrior. He loves wrangling everything; that's his forte. If there's a gecko in the house he catches it."
The late Crocodile Hunter's wife was in Sydney yesterday to launch her book My Steve, which is already a bestseller.
"Writing the book was surprisingly hard," she said.
"Whenever I was working on it, I'd get friends or family to go and do something fun with the kids because it was too emotional. But I'm proud of the result.
"It tells everyone who Steve really was and lets them know that their hero really was a heroic person."
Not much more than a year after Steve Irwin's death at 44 from a stingray barb, his wife said the family was starting to heal.
"The kids are coping remarkably well," she said. "And it's getting easier for me to look back and, instead of getting upset, think 'Gosh, wasn't I amazingly lucky?"'
