Sylvania girl to celebrate with Bindi Irwin down under
"His name is irwin and he's a corn snake. He eats baby mice that are frozen," says Jordan Baugh.
The 7-year-old is not pet-sitting for her three brothers while they are on vacation. Her love of animals, even slithery serpents, is rewarding her with a dream trip down under.
"I love wildlife and I want to see Steve's great animals," says Baugh. The Steve Jordan is referring to is the late Steve Irwin, also known as the Crocodile Hunter.
Steve's daughter, Bindi, is turning 10 and to help celebrate her big day a worldwide video contest was held giving contestants a shot at winning a trip to the Australia Zoo.
Jordan entered the contest with her mom's help. She created a two-minute video telling Bindi why a trip to the Australia Zoo would be a dream come true. "We did a lot of wacky stuff," says Jordan.
Thousands entered the contest, but in the end, Jordan's video reigned supreme.
"I was quiet at first but then I started screaming," says Jordan, of the excitement of realizing she had won.
Jordan will leave with her family later this month for Australia. In the mean time, Jordan's mother says the Sylvania community has been opening up their wallets and donating money. Proceeds benefit Steve and Terri Irwin's non-profit organization. Jordan will present Bindi with a check during her trip.
