The Arizona Wing of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) [ www.azcaf.org ] held its charity car show at the CAF’s Aviation Museum at Falcon Field, Mesa, Arizona on Saturday February 13, 2010. The show was open to all makes, models and years of cars and trucks. This year’s theme emphasized Mustangs and Muscle Cars.

The car bash was a non-judged show-and-shine fund-raiser on behalf of the Commemorative Air Force Museum, a non-profit entity dedicated to preserving, restoring and flying some of America’s most historic aircraft. The heavily attended event was limited to 225 cars and was sold out in advance.

This year’s show celebrated the WWII P-51 Mustang fighter, offering car owners a charity drive photo-op of their car along side a P-51 Mustang. Proceeds will assist the museum with the upkeep and maintenance of the aircraft.

Warbirds on display included the B-17 Flying Fortress, Sentimental Journey; North American B-25 Mitchell Bomber, Maid in the Shade; and SNJ/T6 and Stearman trainers, just to mention a few. Did I mention that there also were lots of cool hot rods.......and beautiful Phoenix Pinup Girls, too.

Saturday’s weather was outstanding with sunny skies and temps in the low 70s. Along with mulling around the hot rods, attendees had the opportunity for touring the CAF’s interesting and highly educational museum; taking a walk-through the CAF’s pride and joy, Sentimental Journey, the fully restored and flying B-17 4-engine heavy bomber; taking a flight in a SNJ/T6 single-engine WWII trainer, and checking out the memorabilia. Additionally, there was Hot Wheels racing for the kids.
