From East Texas to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, with a few supplies for family after the hurricane. Many were doing the same - loading up water, gas, and food for a cross-state trip. Saw many kindnesses and a few disappointments. Lines for gas, water, and ice. The roar of chain saws and contracting crews by day. At night the palette of the Milky Way accompanied by an eerie quiet, except for the drone of generators. Tents on front lawns, grilling in the back yard, and solar showers. Kind of like a weeks-long camping trip that no one really wanted to take. But for our family, the heartening realization that it really would be alright, that everyone was safe. And a deepening sadness that we can't say the same for many of the folks across the South tonight.
