Portraits

Portraits taken over a span of years with conventional and digital cameras in black and white and colour. Many of the shots were taken on Ilford FP4 black and white film. Due to the fact that I no longer have a darkroom, I have copied the negatives with a digital camera, inverted the tones in Photoshop and produced positive, black and white images. Enquiries regarding these images are welcome. If you scroll down below the image you will find a narrative regarding the subject and the taking of the portrait. Congratulations! These are indeed extraoridinary portraits. I have always been drawn to B & W portraiture but at the same time it scares me to death. Being a recent import to NZ I've found that just by looking at each of these portraits has given me a real insight into the New Zealand psyche - and not just from the resident kiwis! It seems to ooze out of the photos from the people passing through. Sheer Genius.

Ive known David for more than 20 years. David does not take good pictures. He does not even take great pictures.
No, David takes EXCEPTIONAL pictures ! He and I share the same art form except that in nautical terms, David has sailed around the world and back and I havent even decided which boat to travel in !

David is a world class photographer. The Lord Snowdons and David Baileys of this world couldnt match him. His knowledge is infinate, no photographic problem taxes him. I know Ive tried to ! (No I'm not a Revenue Canada Inspector!)

I would be happy to know what he has forgotten about Photography!

Comments like "keep up the good work" are wasted on David. He will do it anyway, because the one thing I envy most about you Dave, is that you love your work.

I'll go now, will this get me that pint you promised me ? (Just joking. I meant every word)

Dear Dave, I was delighted to come accross your site, how well I remember being involved in a lot of those celebrity pictures.
