When I learned of Sir Ed's death in January of this year, I looked again at the portrait I had made of him in New Zealand. That shot was taken on film and now, with the advent of digital imaging, things that were difficult to do then are now accomplished with relative ease. I shopped around on Pbase and found a shot of Everest, taken by Tin Sing So, of Hong Kong. With his kind permission, I have incorporated it into the portrait, lending it a sense of context.
Reading that a hotel in Wales had a room dedicated to the mountaineers that used Mt. Snowden as a training ground for higher climbs, due to some of its difficult faces, I sent them a 11"x14" print. The owner of the hotel, Jane Pullee, will be exhibiting it in the sanctuary they have dedicated to Sir Ed.
